Search is a feature in testing that helps users look for their type of person in new ways! Search is available for iOS users in select markets.
Accessing Search
If Search is available to you, you can find it by following the instructions below:
- Open Tinder.
- Tap the “Discovery” tab.
- Tap the magnifying glass icon in the top left of your screen.
- Search away!
Using Search
Search allows you to look for specific terms to help you find your type. Ready to connect? Search for what you’re into! Search can be used to find users with similar or shared interests such as music lovers, pet parents, globetrotters and many, many more. Whether you’re into different sports, or particular activities, artists or musicians – and (almost) everything in between – Search can help you find your kind of person!
Search isn’t designed to find a specific person. We don’t return results for searches using someone’s name, age or social handles, or for searches that try to find people based on things like race, nationality or religion*. Searches that include explicit terms or refer to illegal activities aren’t supported.
*Please note: we offer other features and Discovery settings, such as filters and preferences to help you find users who are a certain age or religion, among other things.
How Search works
Search uses information shared on your profile, such as your photos, details in your bio and other elements of your profile, to best match what someone searches for. It mainly focuses on a user’s Interests, lifestyle and Vibes – not their physical traits.
To keep our community safe and inclusive, Search follows a few key principles:
Search is optimised to find matches based on Interests and lifestyle. While you can search for keywords related to what you love to do, our search engine isn’t designed to return any matches based on sensitive personal attributes such as race, religion, body type or political affiliation. We believe the best connections happen when you focus on the person, not a checklist of physical traits.
To maintain a respectful environment, Search doesn’t support returning results for sensitive attributes or anything that isn’t allowed on Tinder. This includes things like:
- Illegal content: keywords related to commercial sex, drug dealing or human trafficking.
- Harmful content: keywords involving hate speech, violence or sexually explicit material.
- Safety terms: searches related to self-harm or the exploitation of minors.
- Fixed traits: race, religion, body type, political affiliation, height, eye colour and hair colour.
If a search term is unsupported, you’ll see a notice that the search isn’t allowed.
To protect our users’ privacy and prevent off-platform harassment, Search can’t be used to find specific individuals by their name or social media handles.
Privacy & safety
As with all elements of the Tinder experience, the privacy and safety of our users is crucial. Search isn’t designed to support any searches that violate our Community Guidelines. While your profile may appear in another user’s search results, other users can’t use Search to find you using your name or social media handle. Additionally, users you’ve blocked won’t see you in their search results, and you won’t see them.
