Age verification is required to access features such as messaging in your region. The minimum age requirement for Tinder is 18 years old. If you’re a Tinder user located in Japan, you’ll be asked to verify your age and prove that you meet this requirement, in accordance with local law.
We currently offer 2 methods of age verification:
- Verification directly through Tinder
- Verification with World ID (and/or Orb verification) through World App
Please note: A government issued ID is required for both of these methods. For more information regarding World ID’s requirements, please visit their Help Center.
Using your government issued ID
If you choose this method, please follow the instructions provided in-app or on Tinder.com. You’ll be asked to provide a government issued ID.
There’s some things to keep in mind when going through the verification process:
- Forms of ID such as an insurance or medical card won’t be accepted.
- For a Japanese-issued ID, make sure the image isn’t partially hidden, partially cut or not clear enough*.
- If applicable, make sure to include the full double page with all 4 corners and the signature*.
*Please see the visual aids below.
World ID (and/or Orb verification) through World App
World App offers a verification option on Android and iOS, which provides users with another option for privacy-preserving age verification without sharing your personal information online. For more information about this verification method, please visit this article.
Privacy with age verification
Once you submit your ID, it will only be used to verify your age. For quality assurance purposes, your ID, or information about your ID (like the type of ID you submitted) may be retained, for up to 90 days following age verification. After this period of time, only the results of your verification will be retained. If you've successfully verified that you’re 18 years or older, we’ll keep a record of that to allow you to chat with your matches.
