Group Hangouts

Group Hangouts allows you and friends to match and chat with other groups of friends. Subject to certain limitations, Group Hangouts is available on all platforms in select markets. 

Note: While Group conversations can be continued on Web, no other Group functionalities are available right now.

Using Group Hangouts

You can create a Group with friends and swipe on other groups of friends. Anyone on Tinder can create a Group. Once your Group has 3 members and a dedicated activity and time, you and your friends can discover and swipe on other groups of friends. Group Hangouts can be something like organizing a group activity like a game of mini-golf or karaoke, or something as low-key as a night out. 

These Groups will be shown to you in Discovery the same way individual and Double Date profiles are, with the difference being multiple people from the Group are shown for you to view. 

When you match with another Group, a chat is opened between the entire group of users. You may also swipe right on an individual in your group and open an individual DM for direct connection.

Please note: As Groups is currently in testing, premium features and subscription benefits (such as Boosts and Super Likes) won’t be compatible within Groups at this time. While we continue to test Group Hangouts, you may also experience changes to invites, the number of Groups you can be part of, or other features.

Finding Group Hangouts

Groups is a free feature that’s currently being tested in select markets. If it’s available in your region, please follow the instructions below. These apply for all platforms:

  1. Tap the Groups Hangouts pill button on your Discovery screen.
  2. Invite your friends to form a Group.
  3. Begin using the Swipe feature on other Groups.

Making a positive Group Hangouts experience

We want everyone to have a positive experience using Groups. Here’s some things to keep in mind:

  • It’s important that when using Tinder both you and your friends in Group Hangouts are aware of and each follows our Community Guidelines. Any violations of our policies can result in action being taken against 1 or multiple accounts in a Group.
  • If you or a friend encounter inappropriate behavior in-app or IRL, please report this. You can review our reporting resources here.
  • Both you and your Group friends must be at least 18 years old to use Tinder.
  • When chatting as a Group in-app or IRL, always seek consent from your Group members before you discuss any private details (including contact information).
  • If you would like to discuss sexual topics, make sure you have everyone in the Group's consent.

Customizing your Group Hangouts experience

Whether you’re on Tinder purely to find a Group for you and your friends, or if you’re not interested in seeing Groups at all, you call the shots. Group Hangouts has its own Settings where you can customize the experience.

  1. Open Tinder and tap the Profile icon Navigates to profile screen.
  2. Tap the Settings icon Opens settings.
  3. Scroll until you find the section labelled "Group Hangouts”.
  4. Here you’ll find options such as highlighting Groups more than individual profiles in Discovery, or hiding all Groups completely.
