Using Missed Connections
Every Sunday at approximately 8pm local time, you’ll receive a Drop of users who you may have crossed paths with in the past week and might vibe with based on your preferences. Your profile may also appear in Drops for other users. These Drops are generated using device location data from you and other users, meaning users shown to you are users who you may have been in close proximity with around the same time in the past week.
How Missed Connections uses your location data
Missed Connections uses location data from your device to determine who you were close to around the same time in the last week and generate your Drop. We use your device location to determine when you were close to another Tinder user around the same time in the last week - these users may be recommended in your weekly Drop. The day and time you crossed paths won’t be shown in Drops either. We want Missed Connections Drops to feel serendipitous, not to reveal routines, addresses, or schedules.
As with the recommendations you normally see on Tinder, Missed Connections requires enabling device location data sharing permissions with Tinder so we can generate your Drops. You can check or adjust these permissions, or opt out of Missed Connections entirely, as described below.
Device location settings
You can check and update your location data sharing permissions with Tinder at any time by finding “Tinder” in your device settings.
- As with the recommendations you normally see on Tinder, Missed Connections requires "While Using the App" location access.
- You can also opt into enabling “Always" location access to get more relevant Drops, but it isn't required for Missed Connections to work.
- If you choose to disable all location sharing, we won’t be able to show you recommendations or Missed Connections Drops.
Missed Connections settings
You can opt-out of Missed Connections at any time. Opting out means you won’t be eligible to receive or be shown in weekly Drops, but it won’t impact your normal recommendations experience. To opt out, please follow the instructions below:
- Open Tinder.
- Open the Profile tab, and tap the Settings icon.
- Scroll until you see Missed Connections Settings.
- Switch off “Include me in Missed Connections Drop”.
Privacy & Safety with Missed Connections
Missed Connections is built on the same Trust & Safety foundation as the rest of Tinder. Below, you’ll find some of the safety measures we’ve implemented for Missed Connections:
- People you've blocked or unmatched, and people who've blocked you, won’t appear in your Drop, in either direction. The same applies to anyone removed from Tinder.
- We limit how often another user can appear in your Drops and vice versa, even if you might cross paths frequently. Drops are built for serendipity, not for revealing the routines of co-workers, classmates, neighbors, or anyone else you encounter regularly.
- Reporting and blocking work the same way as anywhere else on Tinder. Open any profile in your Drop, tap the ellipsis (three dots), and choose Block or Report.
- Drops never reveal your or other users’ precise location or where you are in real time. There's no real-time notification, no "you were spotted at" message, and no way to use the Drop to message someone outside the standard Like-and-match flow.
If you ever feel unsafe, visit our Safety Center for resources and guidance.
