Profiles are hidden when we haven't/can't detect a valid face photo on your profile. Being hidden means your profile won't be seen by other people on Tinder, and you won't be able to use certain features, such as Likes, Super Likes, Boost, or Super Boost. You can still access your Settings and chat with your existing Matches.
Why do I need a face photo?
To improve your overall experience and enhance the quality of profiles you see on Tinder, users are required to upload at least 1 face photo in many regions around the world. This requirement is currently rolling out to more countries, and while this is a profile requirement, some exceptions will apply.
How do I add a face photo?
To avoid interrupting your experience, you must add a face photo to your profile. An acceptable face photo should:
- Show a clear view of your full face: Well-lit and close-ups are the best. Avoid anything that'd cover or obscure your face, like a mask, your hand, or your phone.
- Follow our guidelines: Make sure your photo follows our Community Guidelines.
How can Tinder tell if I have a face photo?
We use privacy-enhancing technology to detect the presence of a face in a photo, without gathering any specific details about the face itself. In other words, we don’t use facial recognition data (“biometric data” in some jurisdictions) to uniquely map your face or uniquely identify you. Our tool only roughly detects the presence of a face.
I have a face photo, so why’s my profile hidden?
Profiles are hidden when our system can't clearly detect a face photo. Please check that your face is well-lit and clearly visible. If your face photo meets our requirements, but your profile is still hidden, please contact us.
Does this requirement apply when traveling?
This requirement is currently being rolled out in select regions and will be expanded to more areas in the future. Here’s how it may affect you:
- Traveling from a country with the face photo requirement to one without: Your profile won’t require a face photo if you travel or be affected if you already have one.
- Traveling from a country without the face photo requirement to one with: You'll need to add a face photo to continue using your profile if you travel to a country where the requirement is active.
Your profile may temporarily change based on the requirements of the country you're visiting, and when you return home, it'll automatically revert.
I don’t want to upload a face photo. What are my options?
We understand if you don’t want to upload a photo of your face. Your profile will be hidden from others and you won't be able to use certain features, such as Likes, Super Likes, Boost, or Super Boost. Remember, having a clear photo of you could increase your chances of connecting with people. Want to control who sees you? Edit your Settings to block anyone or go Incognito.
If you change your mind, you can easily upload a face photo at any time.
Additionally, we understand and respect that you may have concerns regarding this requirement. If you’d like more support and would like to share how this requirement impacts you, please contact us. We’re willing to consider exceptions for legitimate religious and safety reasons.
